Electrostatics Headsets

Electrostatic headphones have thin, lightweight diaphragms that can reproduce music with great detail and low distortion, because the response time is very fast. These headphones must be driven by special amplifiers that amplify the audio signal to hundreds of volts. Popular in audiophile systems, Electrostatics generally are expensive and do not play or deliver sound as loudly as dynamic phones can.

Wireless - Cordless Models

Wireless or cordless headphones are relatively new to the mass market and deliver sound without being tied by a cord. A base unit transmitter plugs into the sound source, and the headphones feature their own built-in receiver and amplifier. RF (Radio Frequency) systems can transmit through walls up 100M from the base unit. Infrared systems have a much lower “broadcast” range of only about 10M or so and must be in "line of sight" of the base for clear reception.
